Demystifying the BACB Ethics Process: What Organizational Leaders Need to Know

Abstract

Ethics concerns involving BACB certificants can have implications that extend beyond the individual practitioner. Organization leaders who understand the BACB’s ethics requirements and enforcement processes are better positioned to support employees, manage organizational risk, and promote ethical and professional practice. This presentation will demystify the BACB’s procedures for processing and adjudicating Notices of Alleged Violation and Self-Reports, focusing on what organization leaders need to know when these situations arise. Attendees will learn about key timelines, review procedures, and potential outcomes, as well as considerations for supporting employees who are involved in an ethics matter. The presentation will also address what organizations should know when determining whether a concern needs to be reported to the BACB. Finally, the presentation will highlight common categories of ethics violations and recent updates from the BACB Ethics Department. It will also consider how organizations can use this information to identify areas of risk and strengthen ethical practice through internal compliance processes and staff training.

Learning Objectives

1. Explain the BACB Ethics Department’s procedures for processing and adjudicating Notices of Alleged Violation and Self-Reports, including specific reference to the BACB’s Code-Enforcement Procedures.
