Mandated reporters are individuals who are legally required to report known or suspected abuse and neglect of vulnerable populations to state and/or local authorities. OCFS Background Check Unit
The Office of Child and Family Services’ Background Check Unit (BCU) is involved in a number of different background check processes including those for child care providers, children’s residential providers, and also conduct Child Abuse Registry clearances.
Child Abuse Registry Checks
Child Abuse Registry check results will notify the requestor if the individual has been substantiated for child abuse or neglect. A substantiation means an individual has been deemed responsible for abusing, neglecting, or placing a child at high risk for abuse and neglect while that child was in their care.
